The pears shown below are arranged in alphabetical order. Click on the image for a larger view. Please note that the names of the pear varieties listed reflect our most recent insights regarding name and possible synonyms.<\/p>\n

Identification and naming of historical fruit varieties is complicated and often still subject to extensive discussion.<\/p>\n

Many old pear varieties are only known by their local or regional names. However, thanks to extensive and in many cases still unfinished research, we finally found the possible origin and originally assigned or used name of many varieties.<\/p>\n

We indicate these by the varieties in question as geographical synonyms, which we refer to as ‘geonyms’.<\/p>\n
